Auntie Jo's cookies were famous on our street. She made them soft and thick โ never crispy. Her secret was pulling them out when they still looked underdone. "They'll finish on the pan," she'd say. She kept a Folgers can of dough in the freezer at all times for emergencies โ bad days, new neighbors, broken hearts.
